Why Digital Scans Produce Better Restorations

Physical PVS impressions are subject to tearing at margins, trapped bubbles, dimensional distortion during shipping, and model pouring variability all of which translate to marginal inaccuracy in the final restoration. Digital scans eliminate those variables entirely. The digital file is a precise 3D record of the preparation geometry and CIT’s CAD software uses that record to design the restoration to spec. Fewer variables means fewer remakes and less chairside adjustment. That’s good for your practice and good for your patients.

Generally: connect CIT Dental Lab as a preferred lab within your scanner's case management software, complete your scan, attach your digital prescription, and submit. Contact our lab team to set up your connection and receive our lab ID for your specific scanner platform.
Yes. CIT accepts open-format STL files for most case types. If your scanner exports STL files, you can submit them directly. Contact our team to confirm the preferred file format and submission method for your specific scanner.
Yes. CIT can fabricate virtually all restoration types from digital impressions including all-ceramic crowns, PFM and gold restorations, implant crowns and abutments, and removable partial frameworks. Some case types (such as complete dentures and certain removables) still benefit from physical impressions for optimal tissue surface capture contact our team if you have a specific case type question.
No. Connecting your scanner to CIT Dental Lab as a preferred lab is free. Contact our case management team and we'll walk you through the setup for your specific scanner system.
When you submit digitally, your impression goes to us electronically so there's no physical inbound shipment. CIT still covers the return shipment of your finished restoration. For cases that include physical components (bite records, opposing models, shade tabs), CIT provides prepaid return shipping for those items as well.
