Ultra-Translucent Zirconia Crown
Zirconia Strength With Natural Esthetics

CIT Dental Lab’s Ultra-Translucent Zirconia crown gives dental practices across the Eastern United States the best of both worlds: the structural reliability of zirconia combined with optical properties that rival pressable ceramics. This advanced zirconia grade transmits light through the restoration in a way that mimics the depth and luminosity of natural enamel making it the right material for anterior cases where a monolithic crown needs to truly look like a tooth. Free 2-way shipping. 8-day in-lab turnaround. All major intraoral scanners accepted.

Description

When Appearance Has to Match Strength

Standard full-contour zirconia is extremely strong but can appear slightly opaque — a clinically acceptable compromise for posterior cases but not ideal for highly visible anterior teeth. Ultra-translucent zirconia bridges that gap by utilizing a different zirconia crystal structure that allows significantly more light transmission while still maintaining ~600–800 MPa of flexural strength. For your anterior crown cases where a natural, translucent appearance is non-negotiable, ultra-translucent zirconia delivers.

Shade Matching for Anterior Esthetic Cases

Ultra-translucent zirconia cases require more careful shade attention than standard posterior zirconia. CIT’s technicians work with VITA Classical and VITA 3D-Master references and can build in incisal translucency, cervical characterization, and surface texture from digital shade photos and your written prescription. For complex anterior esthetic matching, we recommend submitting a digital shade photograph alongside your case for best results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both are esthetic, metal-free choices for anterior restorations, but they differ in strength and fabrication method. Ultra-translucent zirconia is milled from a zirconia block and offers ~600–800 MPa strength significantly stronger than eMax's ~400 MPa. eMax is a pressable ceramic with superior natural translucency. For patients with mild bruxism or parafunctional risk, ultra-translucent zirconia is the safer anterior choice. For maximum translucency in low-risk cases or veneers, eMax is preferred.
Yes, though it's primarily indicated for anterior and esthetic zone cases. Ultra-translucent zirconia's strength (~600–800 MPa) is more than adequate for premolar and even some molar cases but for high-load second molar and bruxer cases, standard full-contour zirconia offers higher strength and may be more appropriate.
After CAD/CAM milling and sintering, our technicians hand-apply surface stains and glaze, building in translucency gradients, incisal halo effects, and value adjustments that make the crown blend with adjacent natural teeth. Shade photos and detailed characterization notes from your prescription are used as reference throughout the finishing process.
Yes. All major intraoral scanner systems are accepted 3Shape Trios, iTero, Primescan, Medit i500, Carestream, Dexis IS, Ori, and NeoScan.
